Job Description:
The Curriculum & Training (CAT) Apprentice will shadow and support the Curriculum Manager. The apprentice will be responsible for researching, developing and proofreading educational materials for Spark-Y programs. Our educational themes vary widely from biology and ecology to engineering and coding, usually at a Kindergarten to 8th grade level. We do not expect candidates to be skilled in all of these areas, however, the ideal candidate possesses a love for learning and has strong research skills. The apprentice will complete a two-week orientation and training period before assuming the main responsibilities of the role. This apprenticeship can be fully remote, though the selected candidate is welcome to work from our Northeast Minneapolis office.

SCHEDULE
Start Date: May 22nd
Timing: Up to 300 hours total. Spark-Y proposes a schedule of 10 hours per week for 22 weeks, flexible depending on candidate availability.

$250 stipend at the conclusion of training period + $15/hr wage activated after training

ELIGIBILITY AND SKILLS
Apprentices must be 18-24 years old and have the ability and/or willingness to:
Employ creativity in developing educational experiences.
Pay attention to detail in order to produce high quality educational materials.
Have an interest in learning about the topics of weather, forces & motion, coding, engineering, and aquaponics.
Effective oral and written communication and possess the interpersonal skills necessary to interact with coworkers, supervisors, and other staff.
Organize work tasks logically and efficiently.
POTENTIAL PROJECTS
Review and Update Lesson Plans: Review materials from lessons delivered by Spark-Y staff during the 2022/23 school year. Work with the Curriculum Manager to update lessons and add them to the Spark-Y lesson library.
Mobile Innovation Lab: Work on a team to develop “sandbox-style” activities on the themes of weather, forces & motion, coding, and engineering. Kindergarten-8th graders will complete these activities on the Mobile Innovation Lab, a mobile classroom on a double-decker bus that provides learning experiences through hands-on STEM education and programming.
STEAM Kits: Assist with the development of a hands-on take-home kit focused on the theme of weather. Tasks required for this project may be activity ideation and testing, developing activity instructions, and packaging kits.
North Central Regional Aquaculture Center (NCRAC): Create visual, interactive materials to teach the anatomy of tilapia.
