Spark-Y is hiring a STEM Educator who can facilitate hands-on education for youth that empowers and engages young people in topics of sustainability, STEM, and entrepreneurship. This position will spend the majority of their time (approximately 30 hrs/week) at one of Spark-Y’s program partner schools, providing instruction and student management for youth, grades K-12, in the science classroom. The remainder of the time will be spent supporting education facilitation at other partner schools.

As a STEM Educator, you will address the needs of this specific learning environment and tailor curriculum and activities to state learning standards, while meeting the needs of your individual learning communities. You will report to Spark-Y Program Manager, while working within Spark-Y’s programming department.

Job Responsibilities:  

  • Assess the needs of individual programs and to determine learning goals.

  • Map Spark-Y content to determine what topics and activities to include in each lesson.

  • When needed, suggest and develop new curriculum or content to meet the needs of your individual program.

  • Facilitate on-the-ground learning at partner classrooms or workshops through hands-on activities and presentations.

  • Conduct ongoing assessment of individual learning and record progress.

  • Provide behavior plans and facilitate behavioral interventions.

  • Be point-of-contact for program-specific matters with Program Manager or external program partners.

  • Attend staff-wide and program-specific meetings.

  • Attend ongoing Educator development training.

Essential Experience:

  • Bachelor degree or 2 or more years of teaching experience.

  • Proven track record teaching, public speaking, or presentation experience.

Non-Essential Experience:

  • Teaching license between tiers 1-3.  

  • Interest or education in sustainability, agriculture, horticulture, or similar.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

Annual Salary: $42,500 - 57,500 depending on experience.

Annual Raise: Market calibration adjustment and raise eligibility based on performance at the start of each fiscal year.

PTO: 12 days + 7 personal / sick days (2 day PTO accrual annually).

Holidays: Most Federal holidays as well as extended breaks for Thanksgiving, winter break, and 4th of July.

Monthly Health Stipend: $125/month.

Tele-Health Enrollment: Provides access to basic consultation and prescription services.

Tax-Advantaged Retirement Plan (non-matching): Eligible to contribute to a 401K investment account after a 90 day probationary period.

Maternity / Paternity Policy: Following FMLA unpaid leave (with your job protected and still available after a 12 week leave period), Spark-Y also offers 3 paid weeks (15 business days) during this period.

Mileage Reimbursement Policy: Spark-Y provides mileage reimbursement for qualified work-related travel at $0.30 per mile. Eligibility for mileage reimbursement includes required work-related trips / errands beyond a regular work commute.
